GENERAL INFORMATION

The EarthBlocks machine was originally designed to make earth, soil or mud building blocks for developing countries. To this end, it was based on simple principles. Easy to operate, easy to transport, easy to maintain with less parts to repair if ever necessary. It was and still is the ultimate in simplicity but with a vast and diverse range of uses. It now has reached the pinnacle of technological perfection being expertly produced in an ISO 9001 factory with new proven technologies providing modern equipment for large volume mass production, portable on site production, choice of diesel or electric motors and other significant options resulting in the finest earth based blocks available for low cost housing, modern buildings and numerous other structures. THE RAW MATERIALS (Ensuring Sustainable Development)

The EarthBlocks machine has the capacity to utilize world wide materials for construction of blocks. Soils as well as mineral materials of many kinds qualify as long as there is a minimum clay content. The components of a block can vary. Generally, sharp sand, clay, earth, and water are needed. Testing is always required, and a small amount of enzyme is added as a stabilizer. EarthZyme has been field and lab tested as the enzyme performing well beyond other solutions for best results. When a stabilizer or enzyme is not used, an external coating is required as a water repellant. Dustmatt is the recommended solution for this application but EarthZyme is always by far the best method of producing the most durable blocks. A mortar can be used between the blocks in construction, or the newly produced blocks can be air dried by stacking. The enzyme treated blocks immediately cure in the wall ensuring instant assembly and permanent sealing of the blocks. If the preferred EarthZyme is used the soil mixture becomes the ideal mortar and simplifies the entire procedure making it a very durable, easy to apply, cost effective procedure.

THE BLOCKS (100% Environmentally Friendly)

The EarthBlocks machine makes a high density compressed block 4 inches high, 8 inches wide and 12 inches long, weighing about 25 to 30 pounds. The addition of EarthZyme solution creates the valuable massive density to every block. The width is variable from 4x2x12 to 4x12x12. All EarthBlocks vastly exceed the industry standard CBR test code. The machine is manually loaded using a swiveling hopper, which is mounted on the machine. The operator loads the hopper with a pre-measured amount of qualified soil, swivels the hopper up to dump the soil into the chamber, the hydraulic ram is activated downwards producing the pre-sized block. In some countries, maximum all environments in which it is used. An array of colors and textures are available if ever needed. Labor utilization is important and this can be accomplished with the EarthBlocks system. A device is available to custom make holes after the blocks are made if necessary and other options are available including the supply of EarthZyme. The EarthBlocks have an appearance that is very natural and adaptable to all environments in which they are used.

THE MACHINE (Portable Model)

The EarthBlocks patented weather proof machine measures approximately 13.25 feet long including hitch. It is five feet high and six feet in width from outside wheel to wheel. It weighs approximately 3000 pounds and is very easily transported and even easier to set up. KD system of assembly is also available for container shipment of multiple units. EarthBlock machines are also equipped to be transported in tandem hauling several units very effectively at the same time to any location required. The machine uses a 9 h.p. diesel engine which is attached to an 8.5 gallon per minute hydraulic gear pump. A 10 h.p. electric motor is a very convenient option that is readily available when stipulated. All components are of the highest possible pre-tested quality right down to the non-corrosive weather resistant paint. The pressing chamber features a 4 inch diameter high-pressure hydraulic cylinder with a rating of 7000 p.s.i.to as high as 10,000 if specified. A 2,500 p.s.i. hydraulic cylinder is used to close the compressing chamber and eject the block. The hydraulic reservoir is 30-40 gallons. A gasoline engine or electric motor is optional. In developing countries, diesel is the usually the most practical to use. Flexibility is key here along with durability. The output of blocks is 160 to 200 blocks per hour depending on the the crew. EarthBlocks portable machines can also be specified as "dual chamber systems" that produce up to 3,000 blocks in an 8 hour day. Usually 3 to 5 people is all that is ever needed although the machine adapts easily. A very important factor is energy consumption. An accredited University of Illinois Research Study reported that at a proven usage of only 2,500 b.t.u., EarthBlocks has the lowest energy consumption of any building materials on the market. This is a tremendous energy saving during production and a very significant energy cost saving throughout the full life or use of the house or building whether domestic, industrial or agricultural.

INSTALLATION (Portable Model)

The machine can be set up and in operation in just 5 to 10 minutes. An operator can be trained in minutes and become totally familiar with the machine in 1 to 2 hours. The machine can be used in a semi-permanent installation to provide a large number of blocks, or moved easily from one job site to another if needed. The machine is very rugged, simple and dependable, and uses off the shelf standard hydraulic components found anywhere in the world. One-half inch to one and one-half inch steel plate is used in the production of the compressing chamber and it can withstand all conditions. The machine should last a lifetime with simple maintenance and care. The EarthBlocks machine, whether the mass production model or the portable model is a long proven technology in all areas.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

EarthBlocks has developed a training program to instruct all users and interested groups in the full operation and numerous applications associated with the EarthBlocks technology.
